What to expect

When a Glow chimney sweep comes to your house, the process typically involves several steps to ensure your chimney is clean and safe for use. Here's what you can generally expect:

• Initial Inspection: The chimney sweep will start by inspecting the chimney and fireplace to assess their condition and identify any potential issues, such as blockages, creosote buildup, or structural damage.

• Preparation: To protect your home from soot and dust, the sweep will lay down protective coverings around the fireplace and possibly seal the fireplace opening with foam blocks or plastic sheeting. They will also use a high-power vacuum to capture debris and soot during the cleaning process.

• Sweeping the Chimney: Using special brushes and rods, the chimney sweep will clean the flue from top to bottom. They may do this either from the roof or from inside your home, depending on the design and accessibility of your chimney.

• Smoke Chamber and Firebox Cleaning: In addition to sweeping the flue, the sweep will clean the smoke chamber and the firebox area. These areas can accumulate soot and creosote, which need to be removed to ensure proper ventilation and reduce fire risk.

• Final Inspection: After cleaning, the chimney sweep will conduct a final inspection to ensure everything is in good condition and free of debris. They will also check for any signs of damage or other issues that need to be addressed.

• Reporting: At the end of the visit, the sweep will provide you with a Certificate which includest detailing their findings and any recommendations for maintenance or repairs. They will also give you tips on how to keep your chimney in good condition between professional cleanings.

• Cleanup: The chimney sweep will tidy up the area, removing the protective coverings and ensuring your home is as clean as it was before they arrived.
